I was admiring the Dog Tooth Violets growing in the woods around my home this week and was told a bit about them by my father. Dog Tooth Violets come up in the early spring before the trees leaf out so they can get the most sun possible, and then they take that energy into the roots to prepare for the following year.
I found it particularly interesting when he told me that Dog Tooth Violets don’t blossom for the first few years – they just put up their leaves to gather the sun’s energy and bring it to the roots. Once they have accumulated enough energy and are ready, they begin to blossom each year.
The Dog Tooth Violet’s strategy made me think about how we create personal wealth. Consider that the plant puts out it’s leaves to access the sun. It expends a small amount of it’s currency, energy, to gain more, and saves it until enough has accumulated to expend it on something really worthwhile – a beautiful flower.
Like the Dog Tooth Violet, you can choose to use a small amount of your currency to grow your Personal Wealth:
- Use time, money and energy in your business to grow your revenues
- Use time and money to grow your investments
- Use time, money and energy to increase the value of an asset, like your home
- Use time and energy in your relationships to gain more energy for other pursuits.
By being really clear about what you want and focusing your energy on those goals, you can gain enough currency, usually money for the big show – your version of the flower.
When I went to take a photo of the flowers for this article, I noticed something else really interesting.
In yesterday’s photo, the sun was out and the flowers were wide open, ready to be pollinated.
Today, it is very overcast and the bugs and bees are not out. The flowers have closed up, saving their energy for when the situation is more beneficial.
When building Personal Wealth you must be aware of the environment. Adjust your energy – your currency to the circumstances and be ready for when the sun shines again.
