The grocery store was surprisingly busy for a Saturday afternoon. I commented on it to the cashier and she said it always is on the Pay No Tax Days.
The woman in front of me saved over $4. The interesting thing is that I hardly ever save anything on these Pay No Tax days. Then it hit me – her cart was full of tins, boxes and plastic packages. I basically don’t buy processed food, so my stuff doesn’t have tax on it. The cashier laughed and said “you wash, chop and prepare all of this stuff – no tax”. I looked at my bill and I saved 1 cent in tax – on the 1 bag I bought because I didn’t bring enough with me.
